Here’s the entry for Drosera binata dichotoma × extrema:
Drosera binata dichotoma × extrema – Forked Sundew Giant
Species Overview:
This hybrid sundew is a spectacular form of Drosera binata, combining the vigorous growth and wide forked leaves of dichotoma with the size and robustness of the extrema form. Native to Australia, D. binata thrives in sunny, moist conditions and produces dramatic, branching leaves covered in glistening tentacles that trap insects. This particular cross is known for its size and elegant structure.
General Care:
- Light: Requires full sun or very bright light to maintain strong growth and red coloration in the tentacles. Indoors, a sunny windowsill or strong grow light works well.
- Water: Use only rainwater, distilled, or RO water. Keep in a tray of shallow water to maintain consistently wet soil—Drosera binata hates drying out.
- Humidity: Moderate to high humidity preferred but quite tolerant. Airflow is helpful to prevent mold or rot.
- Fertilizer: No fertilizer needed—this plant feeds on insects. If grown indoors, you can supplement by placing dead gnats or dilute foliar feeding (¼ strength) monthly.
- Pest Control: Generally pest-resistant due to its sticky traps. If pests like fungus gnats or aphids appear, rinse gently or use neem/oil-free soap spray.
