Title: Drosera binata 'Multifida' – The Whirlwind Sundew
Species Overview:
Drosera binata 'Multifida' is a stunning fork-leafed sundew native to Australia, notable for its many-branching leaves—each one splitting into multiple “arms” coated in sticky, dew-covered tentacles. This variety is especially prized for its intricate, bushy form and insect-hunting efficiency. It’s a vigorous grower and a great conversation piece in any carnivorous plant collection.
General Care:
-
Light: Full sun or very bright light is ideal. Outdoors, it thrives in direct morning light and bright shade. Indoors, use a strong grow light or sunny windowsill.
-
Water: Keep the soil constantly moist with rainwater, distilled, or reverse osmosis water. Use the tray method—standing in 1–2cm of water is perfect.
-
Humidity: Prefers moderate to high humidity but adapts well to outdoor conditions. Good airflow is helpful to prevent rot.
-
Fertilizer: No fertilizer is necessary if it catches insects. For indoor plants, foliar feeding with dilute orchid fertilizer (¼ strength) once a month can boost growth.
-
Pest Control: Naturally traps most small pests. Occasionally check for aphids or fungus gnats; treat with gentle neem spray or rinse off with clean water.
