Species Overview:
Nepenthes veitchii is a striking tropical pitcher plant native to Borneo. Known for its fuzzy peristome (lip) and attractive coloration, this species typically grows as an epiphyte in humid, highland or lowland rainforests. The 'Pink' variety showcases beautiful soft pink hues along its pitcher lip and body, making it a collector’s favorite for its ornamental appeal.
General Care:
-
Light: Bright, indirect light is ideal. Morning sun or dappled light mimics its natural rainforest habitat. Avoid harsh midday sun which can scorch leaves.
-
Water: Keep the soil or growing medium consistently moist but not waterlogged. Use distilled, rain, or RO water only—never tap water, as Nepenthes are sensitive to minerals and chlorine.
-
Humidity: High humidity (70–90%) is essential for good pitcher development. Occasional misting can help if ambient humidity is too low.
-
Fertilizer: Feed very lightly. You can use a heavily diluted orchid fertilizer (¼ strength) monthly during the growing season, or place a single insect (like a dried cricket) into a mature pitcher every few weeks.
-
Pest Control: Watch for mealybugs and spider mites, especially in drier conditions. Use insecticidal soap or neem oil if needed, and maintain airflow to discourage fungal issues.
