Species Overview:
Sarracenia 'Lady' is a complex hybrid, blending genetics from multiple North American pitcher plant species. As a result, it boasts a unique and attractive mix of features—often with medium-height, fluted pitchers, soft coloration, and graceful curves. While the exact parentage varies, these hybrids are typically hardy, vigorous, and ideal for beginner and experienced growers alike.
General Care:
-
Light: Needs full sun to thrive and develop strong, colorful pitchers. At least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily is ideal.
-
Water: Keep soil wet at all times using rainwater, distilled, or reverse osmosis water. Sit the pot in a shallow tray of water during the growing season.
-
Dormancy: Requires winter dormancy. Allow plants to rest during cooler months by reducing watering and keeping them cool (ideally between 5–10°C). Remove old or dead pitchers.
-
Fertilizer: Avoid chemical fertilizer. These plants catch enough insects naturally. In a bug-free environment, occasional foliar feeding with diluted orchid fertilizer is acceptable, but not necessary.
-
Pest Control: Generally low-maintenance. Check for aphids, scale, or mealybugs in spring. Neem oil or insecticidal soap works well.
