Nepenthes ventricosa × truncata – Grace Meets Power
Species Overview:
This hybrid combines two classic Nepenthes species: N. ventricosa, known for its elegant, tubby pitchers and ease of care, and N. truncata, prized for its large, dramatic pitchers with flared, truncated mouths. The result is a vigorous and visually striking plant with robust pitchers that often show deep red or maroon tones and a thick peristome.
General Care:
Light: Bright indirect light to partial sun. This hybrid tolerates a range of lighting conditions, but stronger light helps intensify color and promote pitcher production.
Water: Keep the soil consistently moist using distilled, rain, or reverse osmosis water. Avoid letting it dry out, and never use tap water.
Humidity: Prefers high humidity (60–80%+). It can tolerate dips, but consistent humidity ensures larger, longer-lasting pitchers.
Fertilizer: Feed very lightly with diluted orchid fertilizer (¼ strength) once a month in the growing season, or drop in a small insect occasionally. Don’t overfeed—Nepenthes grow well with minimal nutrients.
Pest Control: Look out for aphids, mealybugs, and scale. Good airflow and cleanliness help prevent pests and fungal issues. Treat infestations with insecticidal soap or neem oil.
